If you have spent any time hanging around p1 groups you will surely have seen far to many posts about immobiliser issues on the 2.0d C30 / C70 / S40 / V50.
What’s it all about and what’s the solution?
During cranking (or slow parasitic battery drain) the battery voltage can get so low that the ECM (thats engine ECU) goes haywire and erases the immobiliser data from its NVram.
This leads to the a no start situation, turning your car into a lawn ornament, just for having a weak battery.
Replacing the battery wont help, but should be done , or the problem can arise again.

Solutions
- Have the car recovered to a main dealer or independent Volvo specialist for an ECM reload.
- Send the CEM and ECM to a specialist to have the immobiliser data copied from the CEM to the ECM.
- Rent the “OTDIRS” .
What is OTDIRS then ?
